You also need to submit an application and a fee of $225 to the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). You’ll be given 4 hours to complete. This is a computerized exam administered by Pearson-Vue. The exam fee is $54. At the day of the exam, you are required to show a valid photo ID which was issued within the past 5 years. (i.e.: State issued driver license, DMV identification card, U.S passport) I’ll also include more helpful details later in the post. So make sure to read on. Step 5: Join a Texas Real Estate Brokerage After you pass the exam, your license status would still be inactive. You need to work with a Texas qualified broker to sponsor your license. The broker can submit the sponsorship request through the online services. Once your license is active, you can begin your career as a Real Estate Sales Agent! But don’t rush into joining any brokerage. Finding a good mentor is crucial at the initial stage of your real estate career. Step 6: Maintain the Real Estate Salesperson License All real estate licensees must renew their license every 24 months. To do so, you would complete the license renewal form and pay the $110 renewal fee. On the first renewal, you need to complete 270 hours of qualifying course hours, and the Legal Update I and II courses. For subsequent renewals, you will take at least 18 hours of Continuing Education.
