To become a real estate broker in Alabama, you must:

6 Steps to Become a Real Estate Broker in Alabama
Step 1: Meet the Eligibility Requirement
You’ll need to be at least 19 years old, completed high school education, have a valid Social Security Number, Citizen of the United States or lawfully admitted alien.
Step 2: Fulfill the Work Experience Requirement
You have been a licensed real estate salesperson for at least 24 months of the 36 month period preceding the application date. The work experience can be accumulated in state other than Alabama.
Step 3: Complete the Pre-Licensing Education
You must complete 60 hours of Broker Pre-license courses from an approved education provider. These are not the same courses as the one you took in the salesperson license curriculum.
Step 4: Pass the Alabama Real Estate Broker Exam
The exam is to make sure you have adequate real estate knowledge in becoming a broker. Similar to the salesperson exam, the broker exam is also administered by the PSI/AMP and you’ll register for it online. The fee is $77.
It is a 3.5 hours exam, and the required passing score is 75. Once again, the exam is divided into the National Portion and the State Portion.

Here is the content of the National Broker Portion
This portion of the exam consists of 10 simulation problems. Each one will consist of the following:
- Scenario (It will provide the setting and introductory client details such as age, gender and presenting problems)
- Information Gathering (IG)
- Decision Making (DM)
Cramming for the exam is ineffective. Instead, you should study for 45 to 60 minutes, then take a break. Concentration tends to wander if you study for too long. If possible, focus on studying only one to two topics per day. But be really good at it.

Step 5: Register with the Alabama Real Estate Commission
Similar to the registration process of being a salesperson, once you pass the exam, you receive receive the application in the test center. Once you complete the form, you may mail it to the Alabama Real Estate Commission along with the $210 license fee and other necessary documents.
You’ll also need to submit a fingerprint for a background check. It is done through the approved vendor, Gemalto.
The criminal record information will be sent to the Commission directly from Gemalto, but it will only be available for 30 days. Therefore, you should submit the application and go through the fingerprinting process on the same day.
Step 6 : Maintain the Real Estate Broker License
You need to renew your license annually. You may do so through the online portal. The renewal fee can be paid with eCheck or credit card.
During each license period, you need to obtain 15 hours of CE credits.
