In order to protect the public interest that real estate appraisers are being properly regulated in maintaining the industry appraisal standard, all Florida appraisers must renew their licenses with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (dbpr), the Division of Real Estate, before the expiry date.

The appraiser license renewal cycle in Florida is two years, and all licensees must renew it by Nov 30th of even years.

Also, to ensure they can continue to provide accurate and reliable appraisals, they must complete the required hours of continuing education for each renewal term.

What is the Appraiser Continuing Education Requirement in Florida?

All real estate appraisers in Florida must take 30 hours of continuing education every 24 months.

There are 10 hours of mandatory topics

  • 7-hour National USPAP update course or equivalent (7 hours)
  • Update of the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Law and Board Rules. (3 hours)

However, if you just got the license and it was less than 6 months from Nov 30th, you don’t need to complete the CE requirement on the next renewal. You just need to pay the renewal fee.

Furthermore, the Division has already canceled the post-licensing education requirement for Registered Trainee Appraisers. To my understanding, trainees will be subjected to the same 30 hours of CE requirements as other appraisers for each renewal cycle. (3 hours of Florida Laws and Rules, 7 hour National USPAP update, and 20 hours of elective education).

Career tip: Since you’ll need to take the CE courses, don’t waste your money by taking random classes. Choose the one that could really sharpen your appraisal skills, where you could apply what you learn into the field. Here is an article review of the 10 CE courses that I like.

Appraiser Renewal Submission Process

You may submit the renewal request online through MyFloridaLicense.com. If you haven’t created an account yet, you must do so first. After you log in, select > Renew & Manage My License.

If you need to update your mailing address, you may do so in that portal too.

The renewal fee is $255 for RH, RZ, RD, and $175 for RI. If you submit the payment after Nov 30, the fee will be $280 for RH, RZ, RD or $200 for RI.

Note that to improve efficiency and shorten the processing time, the Department no longer mails out renewal licenses. Instead, they will send a copy to your email address. You may also download a copy of the license from the online account.

Taking high-quality appraisal courses allows you to keep up with the best practices and remain competitive in the industry. When choosing a real estate school to complete the CE requirement, selecting one with an excellent reputation is important. McKissock is a trustworthy real estate education provider.
